Chapter 319

“You Doubt of me?” Kyuru replied with a smile that wasn’t a smile.

“Not that I doubt you, but you were supposed to do this, from what I understand only a Natura can do it; At least that’s what Kryzsha told me,” Desmond replied.

“Under normal circumstances that would be true, but it doesn’t apply to you, or at least I think you might be an exception, after all, it’s not like we’re creating life out of nothing, just like any Nature is the universe itself the that gives us life; one way or another this is always true” Kyuru explained patiently although Desmond still had a confused expression on his face.

It’s not that he was an idiot either, it was just that the very notion of creating life or giving life was something a little too complex for him, as a member of the human race the only method Desmond knew to give life to another being was certainly very different from what he was planning to do now.

From Desmond’s point of view, his late-night activities with Claire yesterday were more likely to result in a new life than his current situation. Of course, this was just a random thought inside his head, since whenever Desmond and Claire had sex one of them used one of the many contraceptive methods that existed today not to mention that due to Kyuru’s interruption the day Before, Desmond hadn’t even released his seed into or out of Claire so it was impossible for anything to come out of it.

Regarding that incident, Kyuru seemed to have gotten over her trauma after letting her mind melt at the heavenly delight that the tyrant wasp honey was that led the fairy to bring back into good spirits by acting as if nothing would have happened.

Taking advantage of the fairy’s good mood, Desmond tried to talk to her regarding the matter of the stone maiden given to her by Kryzsha, but to Desmond’s surprise, Kyuru didn’t seem to know anything about it which greatly confused Desmond.

Based on what Kryzsha had told Desmond, Kyuru should have had some sort of idea regarding the stone maiden and it wasn’t until Desmond brought the stone maiden out the next day and showed her to Kyuru that Desmond understood what Kryzsha was referring to.

.....

Even now Desmond had to admit that the Natura race was...strange, Kyuru who didn’t seem to know half a sentence about the harmonious stone maidens, presented a rather strange phenomenon as soon as she came into contact with the stone maiden.

The geometric patterns on her wings lit up filled with a beautiful glow while her precious amethyst-like eyes filled with sparkles similar to a rain of stars.

It was only a couple of seconds but as soon as the phenomenon ended Kyuru seemed to gain an instant deep understanding about the existence of the harmonious stone maidens, according to the fairy’s own words, nature itself had told her.

Desmond tried to ask more about it but the answers he got from the faery were less than satisfactory, it seemed that the Natura, in general, had this ability to simply connect with nature to gain understanding or knowledge, but this connection was never something that the Natura could control and it was more as if nature connected with them by giving them information when they needed it.

It was similar to being connected to a huge database whose information was sent one way to the database itself, but given the way Kyuru described it, Desmond guessed it was a bit more complex than that; Desmond could only imagine that this was somehow related to the so-called laws that Elaisa once mentioned.

Laws, a fairly common concept in the human world but that certainly could not be applied to the scale on which the term laws was used by the association, according to Elaisa the arcana was energy released by the laws that govern reality and the arcanists they could use it to emulate those laws.

Similar to how mana was the spirit of everything within reality and aura was the essence of everything within reality, Desmond theorized that given the way these energies were described and the way Elaisa mentioned as these can exist in a pure or combined state; it was likely that they all came from the same source.

Whatever the case, it was useless for Desmond to think about it too much, the association an existence whose power and influence extended beyond the veil that separated dimensions was still unable to fully comprehend these three energies and their source so Desmond he had no hope of staying one step ahead of them.

Little did Desmond know that his theory about the three energies and the laws of reality, while crude and unsubstantiated, was in essence a crude description of the theory that was currently most accepted in the hunter association on the matter.

Of course, this was like comparing knowing about the existence of the wheel with knowing all the theoretical foundations that sustain and support the construction of a particle accelerator; the gap of specific and verified knowledge was too great to even be considered to start a debate on it.

All details aside, when Kyuru finished downloading information from the wild, she told Desmond that he would be the one to carry out the procedure which brought them to their current situation in the backyard of their house where Desmond usually trains.

Looking back at the violin in his hands, Desmond asked, “So what am I supposed to do? You really didn’t tell me much.”

With the phrase you’re an idiot written on her face, Kyuru replied: “You just have to harmonize with nature and guide the mana to the stone doll”

Offended by the obvious sneered in Kyuru’s face but still confused Desmond had no choice but to clench his teeth and reply: “That doesn’t tell me anything.”

Surprisingly, Kyuru put aside her arrogant attitude and looked seriously at Desmond as his silky-smooth voice carried calmly, “You experienced a lot of pain while you were in that world, didn’t you?”

Slightly taken aback by the question Desmond immediately thought of his experience consuming the that damned fruit that nearly made him want to die for the absurd amount of pain it caused him, words are not enough to describe what it feels like to have his nerves corroded while his heart is eroded and his bones are melted all at the same time in a seemingly endless cycle of destruction and regeneration.

Watching Desmond lose himself in thoughts as her senses as an empath conveyed the fear and lingering pain Desmond felt at the memory of his experience, Kyuru knew she was right.

“I imagined that you don’t even have to know but that experience did more than just torture you, I can feel it more clearly due to my abilities as an empath and the bond we share but your soul feels different, it doesn’t necessarily feel healed but at least it feels more solid, more stable; that experience you went through served to temper your will” Kyuru explained.

Half understanding, Desmond still didn’t know how this related to his current situation, seeing the confusion on Desmond’s face, Kyuru didn’t explain and instead pointed to the violin and said, “Play.”

Desmond wanted to ask why, but for some reason, Kyuru was giving him an imposing feeling right now that made it hard for him to contradict her so he just placed the violin curb on his left shoulder while holding the bow in his right hand and after a deep breath Desmond began to play.

Perhaps out of habit, the song that Desmond had started to play was a song that he often played with his mother, the difficulty was not particularly high and the piece was not famous or anything like that, it was a simple symphony but quite adequate to start learning to play the violin.

To be honest, Desmond was not at all comfortable while playing the melody, after all the violin in his hands was a training violin that he used to play when he was little, so not only did the instrument lack quality but also it turned out to be the wrong size for use by an adult.

Somewhere in Desmond’s subconscious mind, he felt deep respect if not reverence for music, for playing or creating it, stemming from his love for his mother backed by how much Desmond treasured those memories from the distant past; so a part of Desmond felt uncomfortable playing music on an instrument that didn’t fit his standards leading him to create music that didn’t fit his standards or rather his mother’s standards.

Still, Desmond was after all the son of one of the world’s greatest violinists and one of the greatest composers and music instructors, someone would have to break Desmond’s arms for him to put on a less-than-exceptional performance; he had at least that amount of pride as Samantha Astryd’s son.

Like a leaf blowing in the wind, Desmond still brushed aside any discomfort or dissatisfaction he felt with his instrument and concentrated on playing, forgetting even why he was playing, ignoring even Kyuru whose eyes glowed with a purplish light for reasons still unknown; the heavens themselves would have to go up in flames before Desmond would let any distraction affect his performance.
